![]() Waze was a better app before Google and, rest assured, it will be gone in a few years. On the big tech side, Google does the same thing as does Microsoft. ![]() They exist to make money and a common business practice is to buy a company out when they have something you want, keep those parts, and throw out the rest. I am sorry but people really need to get over the idea that Apple is your friend or has your interests at heart. It is a long-term investment, measured in the billions, targeting business, enterprise, and even institutions who drop a lot more than a user subscription for the privilege. The reason they purchased the company (which has never been hidden) was for the technology and the ability to create a new profit line with products and services they sell or license to others. They just roll bits in for some PR with the non-reddit crowd who are not pining for (nor even have ever heard of) Dark Sky and, therefore, think the current app is cool. They did not buy the company for their app nor to improve their own. Well that's nice but it is also not true if you look at the history of the acquisition. They couldn’t - people would be too pissed after spending so much on the phone to begin with. They don’t need to monetize their own apps. And from all of the income these new apps make, Apple gets a cut. Which people are doing right this minute. Which means that anyone with enough knowledge could go make something similar and sell it on the App Store. But it doesn’t matter because no one can go back now.Īnd then there’s the other side of it - they’ve released the Dark Sky data onto the development tool. Obviously they didn’t pull it off - it’s still garbage. So how do you get rid of all of the people saying how much better Dark Sky is than the Weather app? Kill it, and then tell everyone you’ve made yours better. Dark Sky was doing something that they should have done years ago, but for whatever reason didn’t. The weather app has been around since the first iPhones and it’s almost always been terrible. Has anyone else had a better experience with the weather app? I hope I am not alone here with these thoughts. It feels like Dark Sky was acquired and immediately forgotten which is very unusual for Apple.Īnyway. Apple ruined the experience for Android users by taking it away from them, but they also ruined it for their own iPhone users. Dark Sky was leagues better than what it became after the acquisition. They make moves when it makes sense and do well, but not with this. what gives? Apple is usually a very focused company. Not a drop of rain yet, and the radar (which decided to work today) showed absolutely nothing brewing. ![]() It was cloudy all day here and every hour was projected to be a thunderstorm. It almost never loads in correctly (if at all) and the precipitation prediction for the next few hours almost never aligns with what the radar would indicate. This is worse than no notification at all. ![]() I get notifications that "rain is stopping soon" but rarely do I ever get the notification for "the rain is starting soon." Furthermore, the notifications are wildly inaccurate. I don't have much to complain about with the latest iPhones, but man, how is this weather app stuff not a bigger story?
